I think it's more because This Is Bad. Eiji controlling the Purple Medals means he's becoming a Greeed, and absolutely nothing good can come from that. It's basically what Maki's doing to himself! That should be a huge warning bell!

Ha ha, the thing that made me notice that Eiji could sense the Yummy was that he's doing the exact same Head Move To Sound Effect thing that Shinji would always do in Ryuki. Hidden tribute via Kobayashi!
