I think the plan was to surprise the viewer by presenting the complete opposite of their expectations from the main villain and boss of the space mafia. The golden coachmen immediately reminded me of Mikey from "Tokyo Avengers". And then, when they came up with his pet and chose a monkey, they decided to be inspired by Michael Jackson, because this meant the possibility of variations in outfits without the need to reinvent the wheel each time.
