He wasn't the worst name on the list of contenders but he wasn't the best. I generally like his movies, but they all feel rather superficial to me. Also his taste in creature design is weak imo. The creatures in Cloverfield(which he produced although didn't direct), Super 8, and the two Star Treks all look vaguely similar, like giant shaved wingless earless bats.

But as long as he doesn't have his buddies Lindelof etc write it, I think it might turn out to be good.
