You know, if I was given magic cards by a giant tiki head to use in a battle against alien invaders and I had no idea what the cards said beyond two to three words, and also only noticed the glyphs during my first battle when Demon Bug Soldiers were attacking me, I would just try to win the fight and worry about what my magic cards said after I had fully taken in everything. And that would take a while as I would focus more on the creatures invading my planet than on some squiggles written on a card I got from a literal talking head.
Also, these are high schoolers. They have their own lives to focus on too. Jake, for example, is still trying to go out with Gia and he probably wouldn't care about what his Power Cards say since he's more interested in wooing her then reading those cards. And I'm sure resident geek Noah has College Prep homework. Emma would have a BMX race, Gia a karate tournament and Troy an hour of daily rooftop air-kicking and heroic speech writing.
