Just finished up the first season of Beetleborgs. I have mixed feelings overall - if I'd been watching a kids show where it was obviously about kids in a haunted mansion filled with various monsters it would be a great show. But that's the problem, it
isn't
supposed to be that. I don't dislike any of the Hillhurst monsters, in fact in moderation I enjoy them quite a lot. But the show centres around them far too much and often the Beetleborg footage is second to it.
My biggest beef with the show is how pathetic the villains are. They literally can't do
anything
right. Vexor maybe could if he could be bothered to actually do anything other than sit in the cemetery scheming. Thankfully there are arcs with great villains, such as the Shadowborg arc and then the 2-part finale. I don't remember Metallix all that well, but Nukus is a pretty great villain.
The show probably features the most obvious footage gaff I've ever seen too. The Japanese footage shows the guns as grey, while in the US footage they're...pink and purple. Seeing it flip flop between the two 5 or 6 times in one fight seen is REALLY jarring.
So disappointing, but not as terrible as I was expecting it to be. For what it's worth I enjoyed the trip down memory lane and it will have to suffice until B-Fighters is fully subbed.
(Which will be never
)
