The Video Game which sparked Controversy, video game Revolution, and Arcade Domination. The Video Game which brought us the best Fighting Genre Video Game Adaptation to date (Because it wasn't directed by Satan.. I mean Uwe Boll). The Video Game which brought us Flawless Victory and Finish Him. And the Video Game which brought destroyed proper spelling for a generation of young gamers. Mortal Kombat.
My first experience was when I was young and walking through a JC Penny. They had a brand new SEGA Genesis console hooked up for Demos and (In something that would never happen today with all the PCness) they hooked in Mortal Kombat. Raiden was the character I chose. And I fell in love with an entire series.
Mortal Kombat Two though introduced what would become my Favorite Characters. Kitana, the Iron Fan Princess. And Baraka. The Spike Weilding Outlander. I adored them both. Kitana was quick and agile. Easy to dodge and then retalliate. And Baraka was good for a frontal assault on someone's defenses.
And then we come to the Movie. Which is still one of my absolute favorite Video Game Adaptations set to film. Ever. They captured every character beautifully, and it had one of my favorite actors as Raiden. Christopher Lambert. And one of my favorite scenes. Where Lu and Johnny are entering Outland to save Sonya from Shang, and they run into Reptile. He gets kicked into a mystical statue and begins to morph.. and you hear "Reptile!" from the game voice. And it's all Hell Yes from there.
Sequel? There was no sequel. I have no idea what you're talking about...
Mortal Kombat will always remain one of the best.
