Plus now that I think about it, putting RPM in an alternate dimension was a smart idea, considering that at the time, it was implied a vast majority of the previous cast was dead due to robot apocalypse. To continue past that raises too many plot holes and to date the robot takeover would do just the same. An alternate dimension was the easiest way to go. Plus there's a new continuity we got out of it.

I agree that the decision was intelligent, but I don't have to like it.
