Alright. Without the existing copy or the subtitle file, as they're on a separate drive anyway, I downloaded the AVI file alone and played it in both Windows Media Player and Media Player Classic. Raw, no subtitles or any means of enabling a subtitle track, which is how I expected The Next to work and assume it has for all the years I had it.

Are you seeing either subtitle track if you delete your SRT? Maybe the track really is there but I can't see or access it with whatever codec setup I have compared to yours. If you're not, I think there's something on your end applying the subtitles twice.

Took less than half an hour at 500isb kB/s from here. Tried it just now and was getting an estimate of 20 minutes at 600+.
