I think this where the "suspension of disbelief" is supposed to kick in. OOO lore does make sense... provided you can accept the premise of ancient alchemist creating life in the form of medals.

Now that doesn't mean that you have to not-think, like the confusion behind Lost Ankh, but it seems weird that in a show where monsters and people in superhero outfits who transfom using magic you can't accept magic sentient medals with a desire to be whole.
