Malory remembered when this was just a mall. The destroyed kiosk she just passed made excellent smoothies, the store to the left was were she and Jennifer shopped before last Summer Vacation for new bikinis. That memory made her grip her bow tighter. This was coming to an end today.
Walking deeper through the ruined rubble of old stores and muffin kiosks, Malory abruptly stopped when the voice caught her from behind.

Come to face your Death, Child? One would think you would not be so eager after what happened to your dearly departed sister. And alone as well.

Turning, bow aimed, she saw.. nothing. He was messing with her. Lowering the weapon, keeping the string taunt she readied an arrow of purest blue energy. Crackling angrily, tinting everything around her in pulsing blue light.

The sound of clapping caught her attention, and without hesitation she turned towards the sound and raised her weapon again. It was Death. And she finally had her first good look. He looked like an old Goat. Long white beard which nearly touched his chest, sunken yellow pupiless eyes, and long conical horns broken and scratched. The long cloak he wore, black because why wouldn’t it be, opened to expose his emaciated body beneath.

Very well, Child. No more Games.. You shall see your sister very soon. DIKEI!

Thrusting his arms outward thick black smoke poured out from beneath his opened cloak. Covering everything it touched, and everything it touched rotting, rusting, and decaying into dust.

EXALTED MANTA KNIGHT!

Aiming her weapon skyward her bow extended out, firing a single shot skyward. Becoming her beloved Manta Guardian beast! And while this Guardian beast of crackling Blue fire swirled around her, protecting her from the effects of Death’s Decay, before washing across Exalted Blue. Allowing her to become the Exalted Knight of the Seas!

I represent the Waters, I embody the Water which gives all things Life, and I am the last thing you’ll ever see.. Exalted Manta Knight!

Stretching her arms our wide explosions rocked the ruined mall behind her, allowing sunshine to pour into the darkened building. Forcing Death to recoil.

Without hesitation Exalted Manta Knight took for the air. Launching herself forward towards Death at an incredible speed. But as she reached him he disappeared within black smoke, leaving his Harpies to began crawling themselves out from within the ruins of stores and filling the holes she created when she changed.
Malory continued on unhindered. Rolling her body through the air as though swimming through the seas she took aim with her bow, destroying each and every Harpy which appeared, while remaining focused on Death flying just ahead of her. Diving into the underground beneath the Mall, Exalted Knight came to land on an old Subway car and took aim with her bow. Standing in the only light inside the darkened tunnels.

Death chuckled.

You will learn to fear it soon enough.. Perhaps an old friend could help. Jennifer? Come play with your sister..

Tears glistened in Malory's eyes. Stumbling from the dark, clothes tattered and torn, the edges burned, came Jennifer. She wasn't real.. She couldn't be real! Was she real?! .. Shaking her head, steadying herself on that subway car, Exalted Manta Knight raised her Bow's aim and pulled the string back taut.

EXALTED MANTA SHOCKWAVE!

Releasing the built up energy within her bow, Exalted Knight Blue unleashed the full fury of her angered Guardian Beast. The Arrow becoming a glowing Manta Raw, soaring through the open space of the Subway. Slicing it’s sharpened wing through the walls, breaking through the rock and brick, bringing down with it the sunshine spilling from above. Forcing Death to recoil again in pain. But the Manta was not finished with him..
Soaring behind Malory, she leapt into the air in a graceful forward flip allowing the Great Manta Ray to become one with her body. Both Knight and Guardian Beast becoming one being as they soared for the ruined memory of her sister..

Forgive me, Jennifer.. But this thing is not who you are!

Connecting with it dead stomach the creature exploded, revealing itself to be Death himself in disguise.. Blowing through the other end of him, Exalted Knight Manta took the air above him and aimed one final shot. Quoting one of Jennifer’s favorite anime.. because it fit how she was feeling. She held the bow’s bottom end with both hands like a great sword and swung it high above her head. Feet spread, gathering mystical energy which began to swirl and gather around her like bright blue ribbons.. She gave her call!

Sword Bow glowing brilliantly blue, crackling with the gathered energies, she swung the weapon down with all the strength the Manta had granted her! Bringing the weapon down upon the Exalted Death beneath! Death rose his hands, catching the weapon but it was clear he was losing the battle between them.. The power of it forcing the Old One down onto his knees.. And with a death scream from Death himself, Malory finished off the Old One who had stolen his sister away..

The Knight powers returning her to normal Exalted, she landed so perfectly and fell onto her knees. Breathing heavier then she ever had in her entire life. Thinking maybe she put a little to much into that strike..

That was for you, Jennifer..

Outside, as she crawled back to the surface, she watched as with the destruction of their Master each and every Harpy began exploding in an agonized scream and puff of red smoke. And it made her smile. .. The rumbling didn’t however. Turning, each Exalted watched as an uncloaked Death rose from the ruins of the Mall. His intelligence gone, all that was left was the snarling, drooling, monster inside.
