The thing is, it wouldn't have seemed logical that the aliens only sent one more Kaiju. Yeah, to us it makes sense to send in one big guy, but if they can send in more than one why not? Especially since they were guarding the breach. If two mechs are coming, don't send one that can distract the big guy and let the other go past, or send out two and have one beaten leading to the first problem. Stack the odds. Hell, even with three and one being so large, they still lost.

Plus, I didn't find it cluttered since they kept things clear. They didn't have just one big tussle of five. They let the big guy come in just after, like a final boss.
