Alright guys my thread title is a tad confusing but hopefully this post will explain it. For
Pacific Rim Toys
we have NECA whom I think has a master license for the movie. I is NECA or Del Toro mentioned that the property is ripe for toys. I mean it's giant monsters VS giant robots, that right there, no matter what age I am, gets me excited. If I was 5 I would want a toyline of that. If I was 109 that would still excite me.
So I'm betting
NECA
will go for "A" Pacific Rim 2 toy license should Guillermo Del Toro's plans for a sequel go forward. However NECA primarily caters towards collectors. With possibly more monsters and Jaegers in the sequel, what toy company do you think would do a great job for a
MASS MARKET PACIFIC RIM 2 TOYLINE
?
Mattel is a big company but I don't think they would be a good pick. Actually most of their action figure lines haven't really sold well in the past few years IIRC. Dark Knight Rises, Green Lantern, et al. Man Of Steel was popular but the toyline aside from the Movie Masters sits, and MOS premiered a few weeks back. Not to mention their toys just don't seem like a lot of fun(aside from Movie Masters).
Hasbro ....I used to think they would do great but lately they seem to be scaling back hardcore and emphasizing cheaper made toys while maintaining the same pricepoints they've used through the years.
I think Bandai Of America might be a good choice. They're used to sculpting monsters for Ben 10, Godzilla, et al. Vinyl Kaiju and Jaegers to fit in with their existing vinyl toys. Who wouldn't want a 4" human figure with a giant Jaeger to pilot? That would be AWESOME.
Also ever since getting a PLEX employee to work with them since 2011 or 2012, I've noticed some more innovation within their lines. Some like Ben 10 and even Power Rangers Samurai have incorporated some plamo elements(figure kits for Ben 10 at TRU, and the transforming Samurai Morphers from last year). Jaeger figure kits anyone?
Discuss!
Also this is under the assumption that NECA would still be making collectors figures like they are doing now in 7" and 18" scale, this thread is mainly for a mass market Pacific Rim 2 line catered to kids.
