The Room was such awash in white light the long wooden table in the center seemed to be floating. Plush chairs lined each side of the table with one larger set at one end, meant for someone important no doubt. And before each chair were immaculate settings for coffee or tea to be served in the finest cups. Personally, she hated this room. It was like the room was detached from reality. Like whatever happened here didn’t matter, because no one would ever know. Made her uneasy.
Doctor Mai Konawa was the woman in question. A slender creature of six foot, three of those inches proved by black heels. Stockings of white sculpted her long legs beautifully, the same way her khaki miniskirt did her hips. And the white blouse she wore was loose and comfortable even with the full length technicians coat she wore over. Her features were angled though lovely, with shoulder length straightened black hair and lovely blue eyes behind a pair of no-frame glasses. Beauty and professionalism.
And she hated this room. She stood against one of the walls, her back pressed against the in bore lighting just to remind herself this place was real and attached to the world outside. Arms folded across her chest, with her hands holding that clipboard close. The hiss of air as the door across the room opened drew her attention. In filed men and women, each in black business suits and grumpy faces. Someone didn’t like waking up at three in the morning anymore than she did apparently. Good. Another door opened as the first closed and the head honcho himself strolled through. General Joseph Kurosaki. A broad shouldered grunt of a man, so large he looked comically like someone had tried dressing a gorilla in an army uniform. The young women beside him though weren’t as comical. His personal assistants. Twin slender American women with blonde hair and long legs that everyone assumed he kept around for more then their impressive words per minute. Honestly, Mai wasn’t impressed.
Once everyone was gathered, seated, and had their tea.. She began. “Gentlemen.” Spoken while standing up straight from off the wall, and lowering her clipboard into the crook of her arm so she could keep track of her various notes. “The first Real Program of Project Nanotech was a complete success.” And as if on queue a screen appeared behind her as though floating in the light, and blinked to life showing the fight between Nano and the Dark Rider. “He transformed and killed Kamen Rider Suicide within thirty point eight seconds. Including transformation.” The screen then blinked to a read out of Nano himself, arms and legs stretched open with vitals displayed to the left. “The Pilot survived with minimal wear on his body and mind.”
The General leaned back, large hands gripping the table tight as he pondered the information he was being shown. “What about the corruption rate, I don’t see that anywhere in your report.” Folding his arms, one hand came up to stroke his black chin beard in thought. And she had to stop herself from cracking a smile when that picture of a gorilla entered her mind again. Luckily her hand blocking her mouth as she pretended to adjust her glasses solved that problem nicely.
“As you all are no doubt aware,” Thanks to the General. “We’ve had Five Prototype Riders before Nano. Suicide, who died tonight, Butcher, Fire, Ruin, and Death. Names which they have given themselves upon escaping. We’ve corrected for these problems though, General. There is minor corruption of Nano’s Pilot, but nothing near what was experienced with our earlier attempts. Thanks to the NanoDriver System. The onboard computer constantly reads every aspect of the Pilot’s data. And, when certain conditions are met, automatically shuts off the Driver and cancels operations. Activating a Return Program which sends the Suit back to Base with the Pilot. Against his will if necessary. So you see General, that is no longer an issue.”
The General gave an angered grunt. Oh how he did hate being shown up, and how she loved showing him whenever possible. “I expect a full analysis and report on my desk by sunrise, including details on this Return System of yours. Meeting Over.” The General turned and left, followed quickly by the rest of the dark suited men and women, leaving her alone once again in this detached room of white light. And she just sighed. Sure, everything she just said should happen in theory.. But in practice? If she was wrong the Pilot would be corrupted and become a psychopathic killing machine like all the others. .. Pilot. When, she wondered, did she start thinking of her Son as the Pilot instead of her flesh and blood? Maybe it made it easier to talk about him maybe going inside and killing them all.. Maybe.
