I think that is how most of it plays. Pretty much every Gundam design in the series is a stereotype in some way. It sort of makes sense that the various nation's want their Gundam to stand out and represent their culture. You will see more as the series goes. It does have the standard head but the design doesn't scream Japan in the way Dragon Gundam does China for example.

Yeah you woulda thought with how this series has played out Neo Japan would have a Gundam like Shinken-Oh. That would have probably been more interesting as well, the Shining Gundam isn't bad, it's actually cool but the Shining Finger stuff is really naff.
