That is because Ackdos is an emperor, not a fighter. It carried no weight because the rangers were not going to let him even have the chance to use his powers. I mean seriously. How many times do you want to see the rangers lose against the main villian and then have them get that final energy to defeat him? We know they are going to beat him, so why beat around the bush?

That last sentence makes me want to tell you to not even watch the series. "We know the heroes are gonna beat the bad guys. So why beat around the bush and watch the show in the first place?"
Watching the hero beat the main villain isn't supposed to be just par for the course. It's supposed to be triumphant and glorious.
Watching the Heroes lose isn't to just show the heroes lose. It's to show that the villain they're fighting isn't just another monster of the day. It's to show that the heroes don't always win. It's to show that maybe the heroes still have room to grow. I don't want to see the heroes lose just to lose. I want to see them lose so I can watch their growth as characters and heroes.
What had happened in Gokaiger was just "Ackdos came down. 10 minutes left in the episode, so let's kill him."

Compare that to Basco. He came down, lost to the rangers but revealed he had another plan. Fought them again and tied, teaming with the Zangyack. Returned again and thoroughly trounced them, defeated them again, almost holding a public execution, betrayed the Zangyack, took the Galleon and almost killed all the rangers. Watching him lose was so much more amazing because, up until that point, he's proven that he could walk through the rangers easily, only tactically retreating for one reason or another.

Ackdos was a strong villain, but if they worked on him or Walz as much as they did for Basco, then his defeat would have been a lot greater. I understand that, as emperor, he shouldn't get his hands dirty. But as Walz showed, the title doesn't always go to the strongest, and it may just have been a birthright.

Were you expecting them to keep the keys? They gathered the keys, got what they needed, and then gave them back. What more do you want? It's like you were setting yourself up to be disappointed no matter how it ended. Would you rather it had been like Goseiger where there was no final fight at all, they just had to stop drills from reaching the core?

We did not see them get the keys. If the series worked on them getting the keys (Similar to Decade getting the other Rider Cards), then maybe they releasing the keys would've been a big emotional moment, making the series come full circle. Instead, since they began with all the powers, not only did we never see them comprehend the amount of power they had (They had established early on that they considered the Ranger Keys their treasure because they found them), but they just came off as jerks when it came to the keys (Like during the Hurricanger team up. Hurricangers: "We'll save your teammates and all the civilians if you give us our Ranger keys." Gokaigers: "No, you can borrow the keys to save our teammates, but we'll fight you to get them back because Marvelous-San found the keys, so they're Marvelous-San's keys.")

I guess there was no way for me to be happy about this point because the series was more about fanwank then telling an actual story. Because them giving up the keys didn't feel like the end of a journey (Which is what it should have), and felt more like "It's about time they gave the other Rangers' their powers back."

If you think they did nothing throughout the series, you need to either rewatch the series, or watch DekaRanger and Shinkenger. Nothing happened at all during those series. In fact, the villians had even less development in Shinkenger than Gokaiger. Barizorg had more development than the entire Shinkenger villian cast.

I can't accurately compare the series because I haven't watched Deka or Shinkenger. But wasn't there a female Shinken-Red? Pretty sure that alone is means more happened in Shinkenger than all of Gokaiger

Don't get me wrong. I loved Gokaiger. It was a great series and I would gladly rewatch it.
But it's ending was on par with Double's in terms of terribleness and it doesn't quite deserve all the praise it gets.
