Part Two of Man of Mercury.

Wait a minute, when did this show become all about aliens? Flurious and Moltor aren't aliens, they were humans who were blasted off to different planets...who I guess found aliens on those planets and made armies out of them? Either way.

Now apparently every enemy in the series is some alien from some different planet and the show just takes it in its stride. The focus of this show suddenly feels very far away from where the show started, it was about the crown yes, but not about every criminal in all of space and time coming to Earth to find it. And this isn't something that is built towards either, it happens so fast you don't even notice until several episodes later where aliens are casual conversation topics.

This lack of context for anything really undermines the series in a lot of ways, the Fearcats are really cool but we know fuck all about them and what we see of them outside of action is minuscule and plagued by terrible voice acting. I want to love them, because they are so good in the fighting, but I just can't care about something that gives me no reason to care. Was kinda creepy seeing their corpses dragged along the ground though... Luckily that lead to them taking new, awesome forms.

Also Tyzon's back story sucked, if the Fearcats could get out without using the front door, why did that cave in at the entrance kill his "elite" team? I know this is limited by children's broadcasting, but censorship isn't the problem here, the problem is this is stupid. He is such an awesome Ranger though.

As ever though, the action is just fantastic. The upgraded Fearcats were badass, Mercury's introductory fight was stunning and Ronny especially got such a great episode. For a show that puts so much emphasis on the Red, it's nice that every now and then it remembers he isn't the only member of the team.
