I was actually hoping the events would occur like that. I would've loved for the climax to be Wizard vs. White Wizard. After his spiel about how he doesn't care who gets hurt, who dies, etc, as long as Koyumi is brought back, it kind of ended any sympathy I held for him. Perhaps he'll be made sympathetic once more in the upcoming episodes, but as it stands now, I kind of want him to get axed.

I just don't get why Gremlin wasn't just always there, and why even bother with Phoenix if they always planned to have him killed half way through the show and never mentioned again.

That was kind of the point. Phoenix was always there to serve as the power bar for Phantoms, and Haruto killing him was to show how far Haruto had grown in power and ability.

That, and he had a bitchin' design.
