The first two Garo shows tend to combine ongoing plots with a lot of standalone episodes. It does make the pacing kind of awkward, but a lot of the more memorable moments come from the standalones, where Amemiya and the writers just go nuts with crazy concepts.

The standalone horror (as in the genre) episodes were great, I wasn't that hot on the standalone episodes which basically just involved Kouga fighting for twenty minutes. As fun as the action was, these episodes were a waste of time in the long run.

And the revolving door of villains at the end annoyed me more, because they spent pretty much three whole episodes establishing Barago as the main villain, only for him to be killed after barely doing anything, only to be replaced by two more villains who would also die moments later without achieving anything and also lacked the build up Barago had.

That isn't even mentioned Echo and his Momma, who were there for the entire show and were a slowly unwrapping mystery, only to serve absolutely no purpose by the time they died and to never have their motivations revealed.
