So say I'm a guest at a convention. I am paid a flat fee for my appearance, as well as my hotel and flight covered. The convention asks if I plan to charge autographs, I say yes, tell them what I charge, and if the convention thinks it's too high they'll ask to lower it, and I will then ask for a larger sum in the "flat fee" for the appearance to cover the difference.
The thing is though, they are only popular because of us. As such, they should show our gratitude by giving us autographs for free. I don't go into any anime convention and have to pay for autographs. Why should I have to at a comic based one?
It's ridiculous how much people will charge too. Stan Lee was originally supposed to be there last year and he was going to be charging $150 for autographs. He bailed at the last minute and they got William Shatner who was charging that same price. Charging for autographs is just greedy and shows you don't have respect for your fans.
I paid for the convention, that should be more than enough.
