SPD was a mixed bag for me, but luckily the pros do outweigh the cons by a bit.
The core cast of 5 was pretty good for me, as they were all interesting in their own way and were rather believable. Bridge is one of my favorite Green Rangers, Z was interesting, Jack was a fun take on what it means to be a streetwise Red, and even Syd, who I found the least interesting, had great moments. I agree with Kickback that Sky had great character development, and it can possibly be argued that
he
was the main character of the series, not Jack. Doggie Kruger, Kat and Boom were all great additions with fantastic personality, and I thought Mora was terrific as a child. The aliens were a great touch and some of the designs were rather interesting. Finally, I found the soundtrack to be amazing, fist-pumping stuff.
What I didn't like was that the Troobian empire was really poorly fleshed out. What was a Troobian, exactly? Most of the monsters were hired help using Broodwing's machines. The big bad behind the Troobian empire came out of nowhere, and while the series did finish nicely, the last boss was a bit confusing.
The second big beef I had was the Omega Ranger. He was simply wasted potential and not very interesting. For me I always found Kruger to be more of a sixth Ranger than the Omega Ranger.
There were also a few pacing problems but nothing too major in my book.
So all in all, it's a good, fun series. Not perfect, but it seemed that they showed effort, at least in its conception, if not in its completion.
