I'm American too so I don't know if it's just that(though I grew up knowing I'm adopted and like I sort of mentioned my Aunt and Uncle helped raise a kid but he was not fully adopted until he was an adult to help him become a citizen so adoption has always been a part of my life).

As for her being younger than him, I just thought it was hilarious XP For me it was less and actual 'adoption' and just the plan Kaoru and Takeru came up with as a sort of legal loop hole so Takeru could go back to leading the Shinkengers where he belonged. It wasn't an adoption like what americans typically see adoption as and just a way to give him the official title of head of the Shiba clan so he actually had authority, and since Kaoru is the head of the Shiba clan that means she is the one who has to adopt him(and to get what's his name to finally shut upXP)

Honestly I'm more surprised by the fan reactions that believes that Takeru and Kaoru are now suppose to be like a family. It was just a clever plan that also lends itself to some nice humor at Takeru's expense ^_^
