The same could be said about any actor though. George Clooney is only good if he has a good director. John Travolta is only good if he has a good director. Kurt Russel is only good if he has a good director.
Very few actors are good outside of their directors, one of which is Johnny Depp.
Anyway,
The Birds - I went in knowing a little bit of what happens in the movie since it was parodied in "High Anxiety," and was also worried because I read there was absolutely no music in it at all. Well I come out with being highly impressed with the movie nonetheless. The lack of music had no effect on the movie whatsoever, which was an amazing feat in itself (as I tend to have a hard time getting into a movie without a score), but man, this movie was well done. Like the others I have watched, the movie is chock full of suspense, dread, has some great conversations about what is going on (such as the scene at the diner), and the characters are great. I kind of wished I had saved this one for a while longer as I still have 9 more movies on the set and I'm not sure if any of them are going to top the ones I have already watched, especially this one. The movie does a great job in both the effects to display the birds attacking and the sense of "what the hell is going on with these things?" throughout the entire thing. I definitely give this movie a 9/10.
