Not being a Doctor Who fan, I can't really comment, but to bring it over to the Batman statement, I agree, and that's the very same issue. Batman when placed in the hands of someone who doesn't understand what makes the character interesting (See Frank Miller) is an infallible god who can do no wrong. And that's exactly where my ire with Daigo stems. Daigo is written with little flaw while simultaneously still having all the spotlight on him, so not only are we following a character with no flaws, we also get little real input from the other Kyoryugers to properly counter and act as foils to him.
I can see Daigo as being less of a character and more of a catalyst for others, but they fumble that attempt, having other members of the team act in that space instead. Torin could better be used as an example as a character who serves as a catalyst for the others, helping in both Utchy's and Souji's arcs.
That's a fair argument. When in the hands of less skilled writers, this type of character is prone to Invincibility Syndrome. It happens on Doctor Who, too -- often when the focus is drawn away from the companion's journey.
I think Kyoryuger handles Daigo a lot like Doctor Who handles The Doctor. The Doctor typically gets the vast majority of the screen time and focus -- but the heart of the narrative lies squarely in the companion, who changes as a result of The Doctor's influence.
It's my opinion that Riku Sanjo is handling the character-type well, though admittedly sometimes better than others.
