Not quite true. When buying figures on Amiami and HLJ, etc, you have to remember that they usually give you a good 25% discount, because they're big retailers and can afford to price things competitively. Exclusives are the same price as a regular figure would be WITHOUT that discount, making most around the price of 4000 yen.

Most middleman charge 500-1000 yen for services, which I don't think is unreasonable (if you're paying more than that, find a new middleman). Even if Bandai allowed international orders through their website, the cost of flat-rate postage and the fact they wouldn't hold orders to combine with things you have in later months, would probably be even more expensive.
