In my life Yugioh, Beyblade, B-Daman and all of those sorts of things were all just fun gimmicky distractions before the next Pokémon game came out. Stuff like B-Daman barely even lasted a single term of school.

Yugioh exploded in popularity. Helped that people weren't injuring themselves on them like Beyblades, and that Pokemon had handled the "DEVIL CREATURES!" BS a decade earlier so most schools weren't as on high alert towards the cards.

The Yugioh card game is kind of like Pokemon, in a sense. Fun with friends, but eyerolling and dull when you play against someone who's taking things way too seriously.
