Allow me to help explain some of Kyoryuger to you.

Spoilers.

Kyoryu Cyan is, at first, a Spirit Ranger, an ancient warrior who fought millions of years ago with the dinosaurs. Kyoryu Gray is as well. They, for a majority of the series, are simply spirits who have the ability to pass their powers down to their descendants, but don't do that until the very end of the series (creating the female Cyan and a new Gray, with yellow sashes instead of bronze/gray).

Kyoryu Violet is the doctor who created all the Kyoryuger tech. He traveled to another planet and back again. He's too old to fight, and passes his power down to his granddaughter, who becomes the female Kyoryu Violet.

Torin is the team's mentor, a Deboss warrior who abandoned the cause to save humanity. He eventually becomes Kyoryu Silver, but near the end, sets a plan in motion for Dantetsu (Daigo/Kyoryu Red's father) to kill him and send him to the spirit world to fight the Deboss there, and Kyoryu Red's father becomes the new Silver Ranger.

Kyoyru Gold is an ancient knight who fought for Kyoryu Red's ancestor. He is turned in to Degold, one of the generals, but is able to break free of the monster's control and rejoins the current day Kyoryugers as Kyoryu Gold. He maintains the mentality of protecting Kyoyru Red as if he was still his master.

All in all, a re-write of Torin would make the most sense for Austin St John to return as a mentor role who becomes the Silver Ranger.
