It was less a comparison and more of a social commentary sort of situation. This was during a time when the first generation to have (at the time) advanced technology available to them were becoming teenagers and adults. This lead to that generation being branded as lazy and the writer thought it would be an interesting idea to do a show where, by all rights, the heroes are people made lazy by conveniences of the modern world but who are still good people at the core.
