Pretty much my sentiments too.

It really was a weird step down from Crystal. The battle mechanics were greatly improved but it seemed inferior in almost every other count. Fortunately all the things that I didn't like from R/S/E will almost assuredly be fixed including:

-Short Story
-No Day/Night
-Still Sprites and lazy moving Emerald Sprites (non-issue now)
-Holding back Pokemon intentionally in order to sell Colosseum
-Almost non-existent Post-Game
-Pokemon Contests having a lot of untapped potential (although I admit I didn't hate them)
-Way too many and too big sea routes
-Environments that weren't properly realized due to the sprites used (such as Fortree City and its surroundings seemingly intended to be a rainforest)
