For a movie that unites Godzilla, Mothra and Rodan against the King Ghidorah... it focused a lot on the human side.
The good news is that the human story is very engaging, it focuses on 3 main characters, Detective Shindo is tasked with the protection of a foreign Princess, after her supposed deathh a woman that looks just like her and claims to be a Venusian, speaks of the return of Rodan and Godzilla, so it's up to him to find the truth about the Princess and protect her.
Professor Miura is investigating a meteor with magnetic properties which is related to the upcoming arrival of King Ghidorah. And lastly Shindo's sister, Naoko is also trying to find the Venusian and ends up teaming up with the Shobijin and as such with Mothra.
That means that the movie moves at a great pace, and that the monster attacks are integrated as part of the human narrative, sadly the fights are slightly dissapointing, the final battle is ok, but the encounter between Godzilla and Rodan is incredibly boring, Rodan does very little besides pecking Godzilla's head, and in the end it esentially becomes a Kaiju ping pong match with rocks (With Mothra even looking side to side like a tennis spectator).
Nonetheless the story makes it worth the time, even if it focuses more on humans than monsters it's still a solid film.
