Does anyone REALLY care about who smashes the monorail track? I don't see how a change like that can be such a deal-breaker.

I just don't get all the constant "There was no Godzilla" in the movie. The film was made to channel the feel of the original Godzilla movies, where he shows up about as much as he does here.

He appears a good ways into the movie after being referenced? Check.

His role increases after his first appearance until he's a big part of the final battle? Check.

People were expecting a multi-hour monster mash and that's their own fault. With how subdued the appearance of Godzilla and the MUTOs were in the trailers, it should have been clear that the fights were going to be few in number but large in scale. It's not like Transformers where they pack the trailers with action scenes and set pieces and essentially blow their loads over the course of 5 or so minutes.
