I don't think I've had a particularly bad experience with airliners. I have liked American Airlines (pretty average), Virgin Atlantic, and JAL. When I leave for Japan in September, I plan on taking ANA. I've heard really good things about it.

As far as airports go, I felt great at Centrair (the Chuubu international airport near Nagoya in the Ise Bay). It's pretty new and has great food options. Also, there are multiple levels of fun and free carts and transportation to local hotels, etc. Even though it was smaller than the Narita airport, it still had much to offer. The worst airport for me is a no-brainer: JFK in NYC. It's more updated than, say, the Chhatrapati Shivaji in Mumbai (which is a pretty basic airport), but the people are rude/impatient, the airport bathrooms aren't necessarily the cleanest, and you even have to pay for luggage carts. I just couldn't wait to leave JFK.
