Every Kamen Rider needs something to ride to get from whatever food-related joint they hang out at to wherever it is the monster of the week is attacking, and
The Destroyer of Worlds
is no different.
Machine Decader
fills that job for
Kamen Rider Decade
. For those interested, the Kamen Rider Wiki lists Machine Decader as a Honda DN-01.
I don't quite recall this ability from the show, but the Kamen Rider Wiki tells me that
Machine Decader
, like
Decade
himself, can take on the form of other Rider's motorcycles. Sadly, this toy does not exhibit this ability, and only takes on the one form. It's probably just a ploy by Bandai to get us to buy the other bikes separately. The only gimmicks this bike does have are the free-spinning wheels, the slightly turning front wheel and handlebars, and the slight bit of suspension on the rear wheel. And the fold-out kick stand.
Like most of the SH Figuarts bikes,
Decader
comes with a clear plastic
stand
to hold the bike upright so it looks like it's driving,
replacement grips
(I don't know why, they feel no harder or softer than the ones it has on to start with), and
a pair of hands
for
Decade
. These hands baffle me. Unlike those that come with say,
Fourze
, which are clearly specialized hands for riding the bike (two fingers extended to grip the break handle), the hands for
Decade
look exactly like the pair of weapon gripping hands already included with him. Seriously, as far as I can tell, I have three identical pairs of gripping hands, I can't tell which came with the bike, and which came with the two figure releases. So I guess I just have extras in case I loose some?
Machine Decader
follows the design scheme of its black, pink, and white Rider, down to his silly card-slats, on the front and back, as well as the yellow corner on the center slat. While an unusual look for a motorcycle, I rather like it on
Decader
. The bike is well detailed, such as tire tread, brake rotors and what of the engine is visible beneath the body.
The paint on
Decader
is also quite nice, the lines between the pink, black, and white are clean and sharp, and little details like the silver brake rotors and the copper brake calipers help make this feel like a good quality replica. There are also three examples of the
Decade
logo on the bike: two pink-on-black on the front-side of the bike, and the last being black-on-white on the license plate. There are several bits of clear yellow plastic for the front and rear lamps, as well as the turn signals (on the mirrors). These sorts of details really help make this bike feel worth the price.
Speaking of price,
Machine Decader
was a Tamashii Web Exclusive in late 2010, for around ¥5000. It makes only rare appearances on Mandarake nowadays, but it tends to still be in the ¥5000-¥6000 range. I bought mine from another collector a few months ago (who has hooked me up with several older, harder to find pieces) for around $40-ish.
Finally, how does
Decade
fit on his bike? Pretty well. He's not too difficult to get pose on it looking pretty naturally (unlike
Kamen Rider W
who doesn't perch on his bike very well).
These Figuarts bikes don't really do a whole lot and they usually come with but few accessories. In fact, they're really just glorified display stands, so paying $50-$60 can feel like you're not getting much for your money. But, to me they have been worth purchasing. I feel they really add a lot to my Figuarts displays, and some of them do have little extras, such as action features, or bonus accessories. While
Machine Decader
is not one of these with extras, I'm still happy to have it in my
Kamen Rider Decade
display, and I think you might too.
And just for the record, for the shot where Decade is surfing on Decader, no stand was required to get him to balance up there.
