I've just hit the "big twist" in Gargantia and as good as it was, its made me realise how much of a one-trick pony Gen Urobuchi is. That's four series I've watched by him, and all four have had pretty much exactly the same "shocking reveal".

Psycho-Pass - Omg the Sibyl System is people!
Gargantia - Omg the Hideauze are people!
Gaim - Omg the Invess are people!

Granted Psycho-Pass did it a little bit differently than the other three, but when you break it down all of his series seem to be exactly the same themes and concepts with different backdrops. As much as I want to love the guy's work because conceptually it all looks and sounds amazing, but its really hard to when you begin to see his story patterns a mile off.

Give me a call when Aldnoah.Zero has its twist. I'm not watching it but I'll be curious to see if its just the same thing once again.

Oooh so I'm not the only one who's gotten over the Urobuchi hype after realizing this. :P At the same time I do still really enjoy his shows, so... Not gonna really complain.

Unless it's revealed in the last two episodes that ZOMG ALDNOAH IS PEOPLE (which is incredibly unlikely), Aldnoah.Zero does fortunately seem to break out of that mold. Its twists were all political.
