Pretty mixed feelings on Hyrule Warriors after finishing the story mode and a good chunk of Adventure mode. It's a very repetitive game and while there's a good visceral feel to the combat, I honestly don't think it's something I'd have enjoyed very much without the Zelda themes. There's a lot of clever little references and fanservice that make it a lot of fun, but the story is incredibly bad and I don't think it's going to hold up in the long run as much besides a somewhat amusing spin-off.

The roster raises an eyebrow or two as well. I thought Agitha was a pretty funny inclusion back when she was announced, but the fact there's relatively few characters makes her stick out like a sore thumb. Why was she included over many of the more recognisable and recurring characters the series has?

Lana is my biggest issue with the game in general though. As much as I hate how overused (and misused) the term is, Lana is the dictionary definition of a Mary-sue. She storms into the story as an all powerful sorceress (even possessing a piece of the triforce) and, of course, being in love with Link, she has bright-blue non-Zelda looking hair, dances around the stages, takes centre stage for much of the story, performs cutesey anime idol poses and even sings along to the Zelda theme to show that she's self aware. The only thing missing to turn her into a total cliché was the gratuitous panty shot or for Link to fall ontop of her with his face landing in her boobs. She's embarrassing and out of place on all fronts and it's really disappointing that most of the Zelda characters get to, at best, be her sidekicks. She's somebodies fan character shoe-horned into what's otherwise a neatly wrapped love letter to the Zelda series.
