Well here's the part I think the writers had a problem with. They had essentially created a Grand Guignol in a show which was primarily meant for kids ages 12 and up. Somewhere down the line I think a compromise had to be made so that they wouldn't have parent groups breathing down their necks. Sure, Agito and Kuuga had a lot more darker themes but they had more...conventional endgames as compared to Ryuki.

And to be frank this debate only comes up when viewed by fans of our demographic, the older fans who are familiar with terms like Deus Ex Machina. I had this debate with several forumers about the Legend of Korra along the same vein about how much they can push the boundaries in a kids' show. If I were a kid, and I had watched every Rider in Ryuki essentially dying, I'd be crushed. Just like how Optimus died in the old animated movie.

So someone on the writing staff thought of the children. I can live with it.
