While I agree the older series weren't as Kid friendly as the newer series, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Shows like Kuuga, Agito(which was pretty damn dark), Ryuki (just as morbid but it had a good few-lighthearted episodes) and 555 (too damned Byzantine for its own good) did invoke a lot of afterthought but hey, I've always believed that if you can tell a great story without grim and grit, you're doing a good job.

And truth be told, we needed that change in tone. I mean Den-O was probably a drastic change but I think the producers/writers have learned to balance things out. W is a prime example of a show that balances out an excellent storyline with drama and comedy.

OOO felt like it tried too hard to get all dark at the end but kind of failed in my opinion.

Fourze seems to be firmly on the light-hearted track. And thats not a bad thing at all. Gentarou could be the human equivalent of Momotaros and the KRC could be the equivalent of the Den-Liner crew (without the pointless slapstick) but it works...the suit design, the characters and how the mesh well with each other...to me that's solid writing.

This coming from one of the most hardcore of Ryuki fans, me!
