Episode 26 - the Prom episode
I really loved this episode. There was a lot of turning moments for all the characters. Shun and Miu really, really grew in this episode - Miu's turning of being the typical "queen" character to feeling like part of something bigger and better (KRC), and the overall feeling of depression from "having" to leave.
Shun's character grew in the sense that he realized that Miu is no longer "his girl", the realization that there's so much more to being a couple and being in love than cliques and belonging together because of status quo. You see it boil over when he punches Fourze and hurts his hand ... and it's almost symbolic. He lashed out at Gentarou at the beginning of the series after Miu had joined KRC and he bled for it ... and you see it physically in this episode.
Ryuusei even got some nice character development, making snide remarks about how Shun and Miu can't leave ... and the ending was perfect.
Until you see that they're sticking around. Some people had stated in discussions earlier in the season that Shun and Miu should have left the show at that point and I agree - it was the PERFECT send-off for both characters. Keeping them around made the entire episode feel empty. But until that point it was an EXCELLENT episode.
Episode 31 - Ryuusei is a jackass
The foreshadowing when Gen and Ryuusei get to the other school is perfect - Ryuusei snaps at Gentarou and Gentarou exclaims that it's the first time Ryuusei has been "real" with him since he became their friend. The handling of Ryuusei having to make a choice to side witht he devil in order to save his friend or trust in a stranger ... and he chose to make the deal with the devil. The ending of the episode was pretty hardcore, and a perfect set-up for the next episode.
Loved the fight scene between Meteor and Fourze ... and I wish we would have gotten more. DIRECTORS CUT HURRY UP ALREADY!
Episode 32 - Ryuusei atones and Cosmic States debuts
I argue that this is probably the best episode of the entire series. You get a total Power Rangers vibe because of Koichi doing the directing. I can't find one thing wrong with this episode at all ... except maybe Shun's outfit, it screams rich preppy golfer and it seemed like Shun was rejecting that lifestyle that his father pushed on him. But Ryuusei's unhenshined fight, and Cosmic States ... simply awesome. Loved loved loved it.
Episode 41 - HOLY SHIT VIRGO
Probably the second best episode in the series behind 32. The ending with Tachibana just totally mind-fucked all of us, as you don't usually get TWO REVEALS in back to back episodes (the Emoto/Virgo reveal at the end of 40).
Episode 42 - Virgo
Really set the stage for the end of the series (as it turns out) and the fight between Fourze, Meteor, and Sagitarious was awesome ... especially the running-henshin. Virgo was just awesome. And his death was very, very well played out ... with the feathers falling and such.
If I could recommend any five episodes to people interested in Fourze, it would have to be these. Granted they lose their specialness if you haven't watched the series up to the point that those episodes air. Either way, I absolutely loved Fourze and I'm sad to see it go.
Too bad Gobusters isn't as awesome as Fourze...
