You're correct. The "Showa era" ended in 1989, with the passing of Emperor Hirohito (referred to posthumously as "Emperor Showa").

Dairanger is an awesome show, though, as is Jetman.

I get the impression that Jetman's reputation was a reult of the influence it had on Sentai, taking inspiration from Japanese dramas of the time, and ideas such as the infighting in Vyram. In terms of 90's Sentai, it is very much beloved. In some ways, very much of its time, (Obviously things like toy sales are much more of a factor now) but still a great show.
