It's time to
Unleash the Power!
with the
Power Rangers Dino Charge Armored Might Red Ranger
action figure, available for purchase now at
Toys'R'Us
and various online dealers via
Amazon.com
. Like all the previous
Armored Might
releases in
Power Rangers Megaforce
and
Power Rangers Super Megaforce
, these figures are "beef-cakes" with a ton of accessories and pretty solid articulation. Let's look at the figure first!
The Figure
My major point of concern with this figure is how rubbery the lower portion of the legs feel. So much so that they almost can't sustain the weight of the figure, especially when you start loading him up with all of his accessories. I ran in to multiple problems where the figure should have been able to be posed in a certain stance but continually fell over because the legs weren't able to sustain the added weight of the upper body. Or maybe I just suck at posing figures - it's pretty much a toss up.
The "super beefyness" of the figure isn't a distraction - in fact, you begin to forget all about it because of how bright and welcoming the figure is because of the colors. This is simply a side-product of the fact that the suits were designed the way they were but the yellow just brings your eyes to the center of the figure every single time.
Bandai of America
doesn't know it yet but they may have a great seller simply because of the colors on each of the figures - they all stand out so much more than their
Samurai
,
Megaforce
, and
Super Megaforce
counterparts ever did.
I really like the attention to detail in the arms - yes, the dino-scale pattern is present on the arms. It is however the same color plastic as the rest of the figure, the only difference that I was able to tell was a lack of "finish" on the arms - basically to put it in dumb terms they didn't make the scale parts shiny. The only other downside may be the fact that the shoulders are not scaled and instead are the shiny plastic - making it a little less accurate to the actual design of the suit.
Overall though I think the figure does it's job pretty perfectly - more so than it's
Mighty Morphin
counterparts from yesteryear.
The Accessories
This is where the
Armored Might
line begins to shine and also where it begins to fall flat on its face. You see, the accessory count is awesome and it's a great way to get the figure more accurate to different parts of the upcoming show with the armored on bits and the handle weapon bits. However, the more you get the less you get with
Bandai of America
- basically meaning that you have all these accessories with awesome molding and then they don't paint a single one of them as a cost-cutting measure. These figures would immediately increase in value if they simply took the time and money to paint some of these accessories up.
The amount of detail on the accessories - especially the
Dino Charge Morpher
and the
Dino Saber
- are incredible! While the morpher and saber are both painted (they threw some yellow and neon yellow on the gray plastic) I can only imagine how much more it would be if they had taken time to add some more details to these accessories.
So let's do some good and bad now shall we?
The Good!
Figure is very eye-popping
The accessory count is incredible
It's a fun figure
The Bad
No paint apps on a vast majority of the accessories, and only minor paint on three
Rubber lower legs cause posability problems
Weapons, especially the Dino Saber, is made of the soft bendy plastic and to even get it out of the packaging you have to bend it.
Conclusion!
If you're a collector of
Power Rangers
merchandise then obviously this is on your list. If you collect the
Armored Might
figures, this is on your list. But if you're on the fence on whether or not you want to pick this up - I'd have to say it's 50/50. Maybe buy one and see what you think? I'm not a huge fan of the
Armored Might
line but for what you get for what you pay it's not too bad. But if you're looking to pick up the best representation of the figure, as always, hunt down one of the
S.H. Figuarts Kyoryu Red
figures (was going for cheap over the holidays).... and maybe wait for this guy to drop in price a little bit.
