This was mentioned in Master Vile and the Metallic Armor part 1 in a throw away line by Rita: "He's right, daddy, he's right. He tried to get the Zeo Crystal before and look what happens to Zeddy's face!"

Okay. I kinda hope that in the Lionsgate movie, there would be a scene of that moment whenever Lord Zedd gets introduced in the movie.
