The real shame is that a few pages in the "Covenant of Primus"-book that could've been easily adapted into the show somehow made the character 10 times more interesting.

And if a book can give such a good foundation to this character in a few sentences there is not much excuse that the show couldn’t use him for more than the role of Megatrons watchdog.

I liked him in the show too, but aside from the silent badassery there isn’t anything that makes him stick out more from other Soundwaves. Animated is still the most original attempt on the character I've seen to this day.
