It's hard to really come up with any rules for myself because I enjoy everything, I've bought so much from Kamen Rider, from figures to henshin devices, just because it's all so cool and interesting, have you seen drive's belt? Fucking beautiful.

Which I guess is a rule in itself actually, only get the really interesting and cool stuff. Like I love kamen rider but I'm not going to get all the belts because the functionality of some of those belts is atrocious, Blade's belt does like two things.

From what I'm reading I'm guessing your dilemma is one of role play vs figures, if you're the type who really gets a kick out of cosplay or just the idea of being the hero on screen then always go for stuff like digivices or rider gear.

If you like playing with figures all rough and tumble go for gimmick figures.

And if you want pieces for your shelf go for stuff like Figuarts, which in my opinion are more akin to art pieces than play things because it's such a highly detailed collectible line or perhaps the DX sentai mecha which do bugger all except for standing there looking beautiful.

It ranges from person to person I find, as I fit into all three I tend to get everything and in the end the only choice I find making when it comes to buying things is if it's interesting or not.

Oh also you could take into consideration the cost and worth of those things, like recently I saw a model of the robot from the anime suisei no gargantia which looks amazing and is really the only figure of him available but it was around the 100-150 range and while I can afford it, when taking into account the size of the figure, it's accessories and so forth as well as comparing it to similarly styled but cheaper figures, I chose to leave it alone.
