I don't share your Figuarts objection because I don't mind storing them in their boxes. With that said, yeah, I've managed to ding up a couple of mine; the tip of one of Hibiki's horns broke off and went missing after a shelf dive.
Since others will bring up the gimmick toys, I though it might be worth mentioning some of the candy toys. Specifically, there's a version of the candy toys - at a minimum for Gaim and Drive - that are smaller, articulated, MOSTLY unpainted, and pretty much duplicate the gimmick toys at a much lower price point. They're the size I think I remember from classic GI Joe figures.
A friend picked up Ichigo Gaim, Kamen Rider Duke, and the various Drive forms for me. Each toy comes with maybe two colors of paint applications and a sticker sheet. (If you disassemble the package, there are instructions for the sticker placement.) Once the stickers are applied, they actually look pretty great; they fill in the unpainted details.
The figures are surprisingly well-articulated: ball joints at the hips, shoulders, and ankles, with swivels for most of the rest.
The Gaim toys came with the arms gimmick, although parts-swapping was used instead of hinges. The Drive toys each came with both the form's default tire and then another (Justice Hunter for Type Speed, Rumble Dump for Type Wild, and Fire Braver for Type Technique.) There's cross-compatibility between Speed and Technique, although Wild's tires don't work the same.
I tried researching these lines but didn't have much luck (probably due to not speaking Japanese), but I got the sense that this candy toy line has been around for some time. Also, it's really easy to get them confused with the sofubi candy toys, since the packaging is the same size and extremely similar.
