Hm, space shouldn't be unpopular, but I don't know if it's as big in Japan as it is here. Guardians of the Galaxy seemed to have been received pretty well. According to Japanese Wikipedia, it brought in 15% more money than The Winter Soldier and 22% more than Thor: The Dark World.
Considering that we had a space-themed Kamen Rider and occasional use of space-motifs in Sentai (Gokaiger, for example), this might work out pretty well.

They do have JAXA and Fourze was a thing so it is possible.
