Well, red usually is the main character, after all. As much as Sentai relies on teamwork, it's usually red's story that is told. And it has been like that for far longer than the last 3 enthusiastic reds. Even Shinkenger, Gokaiger and Goseiger, for example, had a strong focus on red's story. Gekiranger too. Megaranger as well. Or Jetman...
I think this is also why the red rangers represent their show, even if they're not the leader (in Gekiranger, Ran was the leader and in Kakuranger Tsuruhime, but Jan and Sasuke represent the team)- they're the main characters.
