If you live in a Toku universe, what kind of fighter would you like to be? And why?
Examples of these choices:
1. Regular Henshin Hero using a transformation device: Most Kamen Riders, Sentai rangers, Power Rangers and Makai Knights from Garo.
2. Human(-looking) but able to turn into a monster-like form at will: Gorma Tribe from Dairanger, Orphenochs from Kamen Rider 555, some Undead in Kamen Rider Blade
3. Non-transforming humanoid with superpowers: Bandora/Rita Repulsa from Zyuranger/MMPR. The Makai priests from Garo.
4. Non-human monster, without the ability to transform: Grifforzar/Goldar from Zyuranger/MMPR
5. Regular human without extraordinary powers: Kaoru Ichijou, the badass policeman from Kuuga.
From the choices I presented, I would like to be a human(-looking being) capable of transforming into a monster-like form at will. The appeal of these characters to me, is that, most of the times, they walk the fine line between a Henshin Hero and a regular monster, regularly resulting in morally complex but interesting characters.
And from a practical standpoint, the situation of being able to turn into a monster-like form at will is very handy. You have all the advantages Henshin Heroes have, without the risk of having your transformation interrupted or losing your transformation trinket.
The only downside I can think of, is that these types of characters usually have a low life expectancy compared to regular Henshin Heroes, as most of them die during the running time of their respective shows.
