Shift Fruit has an actual explanation in that it and the Drive Lockseed were created by a certain WotB.

Den-O being brainwashed was kind of dumb, though, I'll give you that.

And regarding the weirdness with Gou's death and the timelines...no. Nobody does remember it. Wanna know why? You need to watch the Kamen Rider 4 videos.
