Everything's a biased comparrison, really. Hell, I could say these are cheap, under-articulated figures that pointless wave away accuracy and skip out on paint, things that are very much legitimate criticisms to be had. And that was my point as well. As a cheap (cost-wise) toy, it excels at it's purpose. Just that adult collectors have different standards, hence why Figuarts and other high-end collectors toylines exist in the first place.

Figuarts may not have the gimmicks, but they have gimmicks. Articulation, swappable hands, accessories... We don't consider these "gimmicks" because they're not spring-loaded action features or something, but they absolutely are a gimmick that one does better than the other. They're a selling point and a dedicated design feature just the same.

Then you've got some shite-y Figuarts. I've only ever had one break, and that was Hibiki who had totally redesigned, shitty wrist pegs for no reason. Figuarts may not be for play, but "messing around with" might as well be the tagline of the line. I've had Gaim on my desk for weeks, unable to put him down practically. They're still action figures, and while you can't smash them into eachother or thrown them onto the grass, you can absolutely handle them for extended periods at a time.

Then again, I also don't collect Sentai Figuarts, so maybe there's some radical shift in quality between Rider and Sentai.

Gaim is an entirely special example, as the AC figure is still today barely cheaper than the Figuart, and unless you've collected quite a few AC figures, it's usefulness as just a toy of Gaim is rendered almost moot. The dated and borderline useless SouchakuHenshin hands make play pretty impossible, the armour is bulky because of the transformation, and while the articulation is leagues above most non-collector action-figures, it's still really limited in ways.
