Has yuu seen any of the originals (as in Doctors one through seven)?
All stories were made up of several parts (usually four or six; sometimes less, sometimes more).
The second Doctor serial, The War Games, for example, is made up of ten parts.
The airtime back then was shorter than it is now (twenty-five minutes each at a guess),
so it might not seem that long a wait, but I can only imagine how older fans must have felt back then.
