Prior to being finalized, Dynaman was originally a baseball motif and the working title at one point was V-Leaguer.

Maskman was originally going to be called Fiveman but was later changed to the Maskman we know. Yet, hints of the Fiveman aspect are still around such as the chest logo and their robot Great Five.
Two years later Chikyu Sentai Fiveman came out.

Kakuranger is loosely based off the same source material as Dragonball, Journey To The West. Guess that sorta explains the traveling nomads aspect as well as why Ninja Red has a bunshin/clone technique like Sun Wu Kong and has a monkey bot.
The five have certain traits carried from the five heroes.
Sasuke - Sun Wukong
Tsuruhime - Tang Sanzang
Seikai - Zhu Bajie.
Saizou - Sha Wujing
Jiraiya - White Dragon Horse
